The starter motor is one of the hardest-working components of a marine engine. Especially in a humid engine room, the carbon brushes, the bendix, and the solenoid take a heavy beating after years of service. Does your engine crank slowly, do you only hear a click, or do you have to turn the key multiple times before the diesel fires up? Then the starter motor — alongside the battery and wiring — is the most likely culprit. If the diesel is hard to start especially when cold, be sure to also check the glow plugs and the glow plug relay.

At Parts4Boats you will find new starter motors for the most common marine diesels: Yanmar (1GM10, 2GM20, 3GM30, YM and JH series), Volvo Penta (MD2010 through MD2040, D1 and D2), Vetus M-series, Solé Diesel Mini, Kubota-based Nanni (Z482, D722, D1005 and larger), Beta Marine, Bukh, Sabb, Perkins, and Westerbeke. Because many marine engines are built on a Mitsubishi or Kubota industrial block, a single starter motor often fits multiple brands; in the product description you can see exactly which engine codes and OE numbers match.

All our starter motors are supplied with the correct voltage (12V), the correct power output, and the correct number of pinion teeth. In addition to starter motors, you will also find alternators for the same marine engines in our range. Unsure which version fits your engine? Send us your engine model or the part number on your old starter motor and we will figure it out for you.
