The piston absorbs the combustion pressure and transmits it to the crankshaft via the connecting rod. Replacement is necessary in the event of a seizure (scoring marks on the piston skirt), a cracked piston crown after overheating, hammered ring grooves, or excessive piston pin clearance. New pistons are also required during an overhaul when the cylinders are honed or fitted with new liners — the old ones will no longer be the correct size.
When ordering, pay close attention to the specific version, as tolerances are tight: the diameter of the piston pin (e.g. 18 or 21 mm), direct or indirect injection (a different piston crown, not interchangeable), and the version number for engines built in multiple generations. Each product clearly specifies which engine codes and versions it fits.
We supply pistons for common small marine diesels: Solé Diesel (Mini 11 to Mini 55), Vetus (M2.06 to M4.17, M3.10 and M4.14), Meiki, Beta Marine (Beta 10 to Beta 60, Phasor K2-4.5), Nanni (N2.10 to N4.80 and 4.105 HE), Universal (M-25XPB, M-35B), Craftsman Marine, and JF Marine Power.
Always install a new piston with new piston rings and check the cylinder wall — if it is worn, check out our cylinder liners. For everything in a single order, see our engine overhaul kits.
