The injection system determines how your marine diesel engine runs: injectors that no longer atomize fuel properly cause black smoke, hard knocking (diesel knock), difficult starting, and power loss at higher RPMs. Often the cause is simply contaminated or worn injector nozzles — after thousands of operating hours on varying fuel quality, that is no disgrace.

Are you in doubt whether the injectors are to blame? Have them pressure-tested by a diesel specialist or install a complete, calibrated injector: it is ready for immediate use. When installing, always replace the sealing washers beneath the injector — a leaking injector sleeve results in compression loss and soot buildup.
