The fuel lift pump draws diesel from the tank, pulls it through the pre-filter, and delivers it under low pressure to the fuel injection pump and injectors. A weakened diaphragm or worn valve is noticeable when an engine is hard to start, hesitates under load, or stalls after a longer cruise — symptoms that closely resemble a clogged fuel filter or air in the fuel system. Therefore, always check the filters first and bleed the system; if performance remains poor, the lift pump needs to be replaced.
A diaphragm pump lasts a long time, but not forever: the rubber becomes stiff due to age and modern fuels. Furthermore, a torn diaphragm can leak diesel into the crankcase — if your oil level rises or the oil smells like diesel, replace the pump immediately and change the oil.
We supply new fuel lift pumps for Beta Marine (Beta 16, Beta 28, Beta 30, Beta 43, Beta 50), Nanni (N3.30, 4.105 HE, N4.50), Universal (M-25XPB) and Phasor (K2-4.5), for both direct and indirect injection. Please check the engine code and pump type per product before ordering.
Does the engine still start poorly after replacement? Then check out our injectors and injection parts and glow plugs.
